This little piece of pink and raspberry striped porcelain was dug out of the ground by hand from the spot of a hotel fire that occurred next to the Carrizozo railroad tracks over 100 years ago. It was carefully set in sterling silver and paired with a polished garnet and half crown of sterling silver embellishments. The split shank style ring was used to add stability. One can imagine the hotel guests having breakfast using this porcelain as a plate to hold their fresh morning biscuit with Raspberry Jam. This ring is a size 8.5

Components discovered in Carrizozo NM

After each artifact or specimen has been discovered it is sent through a careful restoration process before being used in a design. If a particularly unique patina is found to add design value to an artifact, it is preserved and/or sealed to ensure its longevity and protection. Each and every item is made by hand by owners Nathan and Ali, therefore, some small imperfections or variations may be present in your design. Garnet

Also known as the dragon's heart, this deep red and sturdy stone is commonly associated with creativity, sensuality and strength. The garnet represents the primordial fire, the creation of the world out of chaos, purification, and of course, love.

Porcelain

The European name “porcelain” in English comes from the old Italian porcellana, meaning cowrie shell, or puka shell, because of its resemblance to the surface of this shell. Porcelain is often regarded as the most prestigious type of pottery for its delicacy, strength, and its white color.

Carrizozo NM

Carrizozo comes from the Spanish word “Carrizo”, a tall reed that was abundant in the area and used as cattle feed. There was so much of this reed the extra "zo" was added to the town name. Journalist Quentin Reynolds once wrote a piece on Carrizozo New Mexico and later said about it, I used to agree with Bugs (Arther "Bugs" Bear) that once you left New York, you were strictly on the horse and buggy circuit. But of late years I've had to modify that. Since then I've discovered New Orleans, San Francisco and a little place called Carrizozo, New Mexico, where I want to go when I die. I want to go there and gang around the drug store and sneak behind the prescription counter with Art Rolland and have a nip of what he calls Old Granddaddy then type out his prescriptions for him." There is a special magic to this once bustling railway stop.

Can I resize this item?

If a product page does not have a drop down option for size selections, or if the product description does not state a need for the customer to input their desired size in the notes section of their purchase, then we are NOT able to resize the item. Some exceptions can be made with chain lengths. Please reach out to us at inspire@1888design.com and we will try to accommodate as best we can.

Are your earrings hypoallergenic?

All earring posts are made out of sterling silver, stainless steel, or brass metals unless otherwise stated in the product description. Sterling silver and stainless steel are both hypoallergenic metals. Brass can react differently among different skin types, so we advise knowing your body's tolerance to brass prior to purchasing earrings with brass ear posts. Again, all metals used are stated in each product's description tab.

Can I order this as a gift?

Yes! Please leave us a note at checkout stating that this order is a gift along with the name of the recipient so we can address them properly in the packaging.
