This complex arrangement of ancient sea dwellers forever captured in stone, along with the vibrant, blue-green specimens of earth mimicking that of rich, oceanic hues creates a beautiful, synergistic relationship between these earth and water-bound elements that are held here. It's a divine way for these elements, these lively beings, to get to know and understand one another, to cross into each other's worlds. I can't think of a more beautiful way to pass the time over a million years.

Fossilized Madagascar ammonites, fossilized mako and tiger shark teeth, green turquoise stone, and faceted aventurine crystal. These individual elements are each set in sterling silver and fine silver metals and dangle freely below their sterling silver studded ear posts. They are lightweight and measure 6cm long.

After each artifact or specimen has been discovered it is sent through a careful restoration process before being used in a design. If a particularly unique patina is found to add design value to an artifact, it is preserved and/or sealed to ensure its longevity and protection. Each and every item is made by hand by owners Nathan and Ali, therefore, some small imperfections or variations may be present in your design. Each 1888 Design piece contains unique elements of symbolic or historic value that mean something different to us all. Let's break down what the elements in this design are

Shark

What is it about sharks and their teeth that has us so intrigued? Could it be that to know these monsters of the deep is to know the shadow within us? Perhaps if we wear the dagger-like teeth of such a predator then we feel we take on some of its power? Whatever the case, the shark has remained largely unchanged for tens of millions of years do to its amazing success as a predator. These huge fish represent the apex of what it means to be at the top of the food chain and can serve as a symbol of power, protection, and intrigue with the natural world.

Ammonite

Now extinct, the ammonite mollusk was a shelled cephalopod, usually appearing in a coiled, spiral shape. The extinction of ammonites coincided with the extinction of dinosaurs. Ammonites inhabited the world’s oceans and now appear as fossils in marine rocks. Because of their rapid evolution and wide distribution, ammonite fossils provide a useful tool for indexing and dating rocks. It is said that the original discus used by the ancient Greeks in their Olympics was in fact a fossilized ammonite. In India, ammonite fossils are identified with the god Vishnu and are used in various ceremonies.

Ammonites are said to activate metaphysical powers and interdimensional exploration. It represents coming full circle and knowing a place for the first time as well as converting negative energy into a gently flowing positive spiral. The ammonite has the soul's path encoded within it and it is a useful support for rebirthing.

Aventurine

This stone is known for its potent powers of manifestation, good luck and bringing about a sunny disposition. It has been traditionally thought of as the luckiest stone on the planet. It inspires creativity, opportunity, and passion for living. A wonderful talisman to help conjure new ideas and new chapters of your life.

Turquoise

For thousands of years, turquoise has been prized as a symbol of wisdom, nobility, and immortality. In many Native American cultures, it represents the Great Spirit in the Sky and is often referred to as the sky stone. It’s believed that if a crack forms in the stone, it has absorbed the impact that would have otherwise resulted in an injury to its wearer, making it a powerful stone of physical protection.

Can I resize this item?

If a product page does not have a drop down option for size selections, or if the product description does not state a need for the customer to input their desired size in the notes section of their purchase, then we are NOT able to resize the item. Some exceptions can be made with chain lengths. Please reach out to us at inspire@1888design.com and we will try to accommodate as best we can.

Are your earrings hypoallergenic?

All earring posts are made out of sterling silver, stainless steel, or brass metals unless otherwise stated in the product description. Sterling silver and stainless steel are both hypoallergenic metals. Brass can react differently among different skin types, so we advise knowing your body's tolerance to brass prior to purchasing earrings with brass ear posts. Again, all metals used are stated in each product's description tab.
