1888 Nate's Take: "There are so many ways to rise above your current station in life, but not all are equal make sure you head in the direction of your goals without stepping on others to do so. Let your fire illuminate the way for others rather than scorch the ground...better yet take your path to the sky where there is still room for all to succeed."
“The sharp crackle and hiss of a lighting strike, and the great rumble and overtaking boom of its proceeding thunder holds a special place in my heart…I remember hiding from an August storm in an old metal drainage tube with my first love, when we were just kids and watching the bluish-purple and hot white bolts of lighting slam down into the earth…. counting the seconds between the flash and the drawn-out rumble of its thunder…this would tell us how far away the storm was…at first, there was about 3 seconds between strike and sound meaning the storm about was about three miles away…the shorter the space between the bolt and crash the closer it was! Eventually, it was right on top of us…the rain pelting the metal pipe that we were hiding in with a frantic excitement…my heartbeat fast and hard and I felt like I could feel a rushing pulse in her hands as we clasped tightly to each other. Eventually, the storm passed and I walked her home…gave her what I would find out later was her very first kiss, then I said goodnight and walked home over the wet grass.”
Worshiped as a God and mother to all planets, the sun is the reason our planet came to be. One cannot take its overwhelming influence for granted. The sun gives us light, warmth, seasons, energy, the aurora borealis, pink and orange sunsets, and sunrises, our summer suntan, and our direction home. We are all made of elements made in the nuclear furnace of a star, expelled into space in its death rattle known as a supernova,we are literally made of stardust. 1888 feels an interesting kindred to the sun symbol for this reason. The sun does give us life, and we are made of materials formed in a star, but we are not made of the materials formed in our star….A fascinating fact that only furthers our connectedness to the rest of our universe.
My Mother used to say that if you came across a feather lying in your path, it’s a sign that you are headed in the right direction, your true path, and you should pick it up and keep it as a talisman of luck for your journey.
