"The Sons of Jupiter" 1780 Year old Roman Standing Jupiter Coin Cuff

$ 327.00

This extremely rare solid bronze Roman Denarius coin features the God Jupiter standing left with a bull and lion to his sides on its reverse side. On its obverse side it features Gordian III Viminacium who was Roman emperor from 238 to 244 AD. The Coin would have been minted during his rule making it at least 1780 years old. The life this coin has lived is undeniably complex and connects the ancient world to today. One could imagine a roman man or woman trading this coin for or a vessel of wine to take home for a celebration perhaps? What aspects of Roman culture were worth celebrating we wonder? Perhaps they celebrated the change of seasons as importantly as we celebrate a birthday? This bracelet allows for the imagination to run wild with connecting those things that we share with our ancient relatives and to ponder the ways we have become different. The image of Jupiter on the reverse side of the coin was showcased as the front of the cuff to allow the wearer to contemplate a time when people saw dieties differently that we do today. The obverse side of the coin featuring Gordian III Viminacium is protected by a beam of silver preventing it from making too much contact with the skin. The arms and bezel are solid sterling silver with a small ring of strong brass as the open backplate. The cuff is slightly adjustable and has a circumference of approx 7".

After each artifact or specimen has been discovered it is sent through a careful restoration process before being used in a design. Each 1888 Design piece contains unique elements of symbolic or historic value that mean something different to us all. Let's break down what the elements in this design are

Roman Coins

Before the third century BC Romans used Jagged pieces of Bronze called Aes Rude as currency. The Utilitarian uses of Bronze gave the pieces value and were traded for goods and services. It wasn’t until the Romans started expanding into the Italian Peninsula where the bronze sizes and shapes were standardized into an official coinage. The first official Roman coinage was called the Denarius and used a combination of Roman and Greek methods for standardization of precious metal within coins. Over the centuries The variety of materials used ranged from gold, silver, bronze, copper and brass. The ruling emperor was used on the coins front or, Obverse side and various symbols of the empire decorated the coins back or, reverse sides. Images ranged from deities to animals and many others. Roman coins have become a fascinating and varied collectable showcasing the Roman lineage and the essence of  Roman culture.

Moesia

Moesia was an ancient region and later Roman province situated in the Balkans south of the Danube River.

Coins

Coins have been around for millennia as currency but what they mean to us is so much more. From the very beginning peoples have been stamping them with the images and symbols that represent the most important aspects of their cultures and heritages. These little treasures, most made of precious metals, take on a life of their own as they are passed from person to person while journeying throughout the world. They carry with them ideas and images of far-off places to new lands and new peoples. One can often feel the energy or wu in many coins, especially those that have been traveling for hundreds or even thousands of years. A coin’s patina, scratches and wear often add artistic value showcasing its long history.

The concept of money has value far beyond the stamped denominations on a coin or bill. Money represents the countless possibilities one can add to their life by having this tool in surplus. Having this tool is a necessary part of life and building positive associations with our currencies can assist us in building a beautiful life.
