~Brothel Tokens~
Coin collectors sometimes refer to these (usually) brass coins as “Fantasy Brothel Tokens” because in reality, these were only in circulation as a means to lure young men inside the brothels where at that point the tokens were pretty much only good for a laugh. Once inside, the would-be patrons would then be treated the same as any that arrived without a token in hand. Although the morally polarizing services promised on these tokens can evoke hot debate amongst people of opposing opinions, they can be undeniably comical in terms of their verbiage and flare. The proprietors almost always had a quirky name and the services promised seemed straight out of an old western movie. Tokens for brothels have been issued since Roman times, perhaps even before. Whatever your feelings on these playful artifacts may be, their role in history's story regarding what some call the world’s oldest profession, and pure human nature, is undeniable.
