This 1888 Design is a:

One of a Kind

Reimagined Components: Carved animal bone spear and crown bead with smiling sun charm on a 16'' brown leather cord.

1888's Take: The vicious yet blissful cycle of life and death is inevitable for us all. There's no escaping the matter that all that is born, no matter how beautiful, no matter how innocent or small, must also die and become anew. What makes the ladder of this reality more meaningful and easier for us still here on Earth to comprehend is when we honor those that have passed. It is not only our tradition but our humanly instinct to honor the dead in a variety of ways, whether it be by pray, memorials, ceremonies, or displaying their remains to keep the essence of their being alive. This is why within 1888 Design, we often use animal remains in order to properly honor a once living, breathing, thinking being of this world we share, as well as a means of displaying what the particular creature represents to us in nature- a bird representing freedom, or a wolf representing leadership. Ask yourself, of someone you love that is now gone, what did they represent to you?

Worshiped as a God and mother to all planets, the sun is the reason our planet came to be. One cannot take its overwhelming influence for granted. Known as “the giver of all life”, the sun gives us light, warmth, the aurora borealis, pink and orange sunsets and sunrises, and so much more. In western astrology, one’s sun sign determines the purpose or course of one’s life. It represents our conscious mind, our life force, and our will to live. The exact placement of the sun at your time of birth gives signs of your strong personality traits and reveals the ego.

~Claws, Teeth, Bones~

The claws, teeth, and bones of wild animals have historically been worn as symbols of prowess & social standing. Deep admiration was given to those who could kill the most fearsome of beasts. It's no longer a necessity for most of us to hunt for our survival, so the wearing of claws, teeth, & bones has become symbolic of overcoming great obstacles despite our fears, and connecting with our inner animal as we charge forth the evolution of the spirit.

DISCLAIMER: Any and all animal specimens that we use in our designs are ethically sourced, either found in nature predeceased by natural causes or sourced from an ethical handler. WE NEVER HARM OR KILL ANIMALS FOR THE SAKE OF OUR ART. The purpose of including animal remains in our designs is to honor the animal's being and speak upon the lessons they teach us in life.

After each artifact or specimen has been discovered it is sent through a careful restoration process before being used in one of our designs. If a particularly unique patina is found to add design value to an artifact, it's preserved & sealed to ensure its longevity & protection.
