This 1888 Design is a:

One of a Kind

Reimagined Components: Vintage GM car ignition/door key, 1886 Indian Head cent and partial sterling silver turquoise flower orphan earring strung on a 25'' 3mm brass boxcar chain

1888's Take: "The stars like frozen fireworks hovering silent and still far over the moonlight white Vermont corn field in winter... Rainbow arrays of shells rhythmically pulsing as bathwater warm waves kiss the Roatan coastline... Effervescent grasses in fluidic motion with grasshoppers popping like champagne bubbles in all directions... These are a few memories I hold from my own experiences where the beauty that nature so effortlessly creates forged forever thoughts into my being. In return I'll do what I can to save these places so others can feel as I did in these moments." - Nathan

 ~Automotive Keys~

Few things turn our heads faster than the rev of a powerful engine, or the site of James Dean against his 1953 MG TD sports car or his 1955 Triumph Tiger T110 650 cc motorcycle. A car and its paired key can tell a lot of one’s representation of who they are. Keys are incredible symbols of opportunity and dreams while automobile keys specifically can really dig into one’s desires.

~Indian Head Cent~

Most don’t realize that the image on this incredible coin was modeled after the Greco-Roman Statue of the Goddess Venus Accroupie, adorned in a Native American headdress of eagle feathers. Things are not always what they seem, a second look or deeper study can often reveal an unexpected truth & a deeper understanding.

~Turquoise~

For thousands of years, turquoise has been prized as a symbol of wisdom, nobility, and immortality. In many Native American cultures, it represents the Great Spirit in the Sky and is often referred to as the Sky Stone. It’s believed that if a crack forms in the stone, it has taken an injury for its wearer.

~Flowers~

It's safe to say that for as long as humans have walked the earth flowers have been given as tokens of love, friendship, affection, intention, accomplishment & sympathy. The beauty of a flower evokes unexpressed thoughts &  feelings that can be difficult to find words for. Delicate and often needing careful nurturing to bloom flowering plants can open our hearts to the vulnerable tenderness that so desires brightly colored expression.

~Orphan Earring~

An orphan earring is 1888's term for a single earring that has lost its other pair. Many might see these as now useless, which makes it one of our favorite items to rescue and repurpose!

After each artifact or specimen has been discovered it is sent through a careful restoration process before being used in a design. If a particularly unique patina is found to add design value to an artifact, it's preserved & sealed to ensure its longevity & protection.
