One of a Kind

Reimagined Components: Antique 1937 American Buffalo nickel coin with copper feather strung on a 27'' tan leather cord

1888's Take: Reminding ourselves that life is a kind of game can be useful. What I mean is that we can play it or we can sit on the sidelines. Better to play in my opinion. We can choose to play rough, play smart, play to learn or play to dominate or play to simply experience. I don't feel that you can win or even lose at the game of life so I choose to play to experience. How do you play?" -Nathan

~Buffalo Nickel: 1913 to 1938~

Sculptor James Earle Fraser was commissioned to beautify the US nickel. The result was a stunning depiction of an American bison, a symbol of strength, courage, prosperity, challenge, and survival. The obverse side depicts the profile of a South Western Native American Cheif. It is believed that three different American Indians sat for Fraser while creating his designs. Two were named by Fraser before his death, Chief Iron Tail of the Lakota Sioux and Chief Two Moons of the Cheyenne. He could not recall the name of the third person...

~Feather~

Mother always said that if you find a feather it’s a symbol that you are on your true path, that you should pick it up and keep it for luck on your journey. Feathers have commonly represented everything from the center of the cosmos, to luck. Used in countless cultures around the globe for rituals, ceremonies, as a status symbol or even a plain ol' writing tool, the feather can also be a symbol of versatility. The Navajo Indians used hawk and eagle feathers to make their “Headdress of Feathers”. Only warriors who had displayed extraordinary bravery were allowed to wear it. In the stories created by our jewelry, 1888's feathers represent freedom & the need to soar towards passion.  Oh, & a little good luck never hurts.

After each artifact or specimen has been discovered it is sent through a careful restoration process before being used in a design. If a particularly unique patina is found to add design value to an artifact, it's preserved & sealed to ensure its longevity & protection.
