Reimagined Components: Antique pin rework with Queen Juliana Netherlands coin and goldtone sand dollar strung on 27" 4mm brass boxcar chain.
1888's Take: "Words create a duality to life, spend some time each day experiencing life without them." - Nathan
I have so many stories about sand dollars, my favorite is when my mother taught me about the 5 doves that are inside them. If you break one open (which is heartbreaking to do) there are 5 tiny shell fragments that will fall out and all resemble origami doves.
~Queen Juliana of the Netherlands~
Her reign saw the decolonization and independence of the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia). Despite a series of controversies involving the royal family, Juliana remained a popular figure among the Dutch. In April 1980, Juliana abdicated in favor of her eldest daughter Beatriz. Upon her death in 2004 at the age of 94, she was the longest-lived former reigning monarch in the world.
After each artifact or specimen has been discovered it is sent through a careful restoration process before being used in a design. If a particularly unique patina is found to add design value to an artifact, it's preserved & sealed to ensure its longevity & protection.
