~Lion~
As the traditional Leo totem, the lion is a figure of courage, loyalty, friendship, and strength. Legend says that they sleep with open eyes, always ready. Primarily a nocturnal animal, the lion is a symbol of authority and command over subconscious thought.
In the realm of spirit animals, the lion wins the prize for the most relentless fighter in the face of life challenges. The presence of this powerful animal can mean that something wild or difficult to control may be happening. As such, lions symbolize emotions that are difficult to manage, such as anger or fear. The most common lion attributes are: wisdom, power, royalty, dignity, courage, justice, ferocity, dominion, authority, honor, strength, and leadership.
~Dresser Handle~
When it comes to dresser and drawer handles there is more history than you might expect. The brass loop handle with a sturdy ornate backing started appearing all the way back in the 1660s. A common design was the lion's face with a loop in its mouth. Before the 1660’s though, during the Oak Period, dressers had lovely, engraved hardwood handles. Many of the handles we enjoy collecting most for 1888 Design's upcycled art are seventieth-century inspired brass, iron, or alloy handles.
~Leo~
Leo, meaning “lion” in Latin, is the 5th Zodiac sign in astrology. A fire sign, ruling planet being the sun, and associated body part the heart, Leos are highly courageous and love being seen in the limelight. Ambitious, creative, enthusiastic, and witty, a rising sign Leo is hard to miss.
