1888's Take: "I used to hate standing out. It's not so much that I was afraid of it, in fact I liked expressing myself in the ways I wanted to. But there were certain aspects of me that stood out on their own, that I didn't choose, that I was really embarrassed about. I used to be the tallest one in my class from about 7-13 years old. I hit a major growth spurt before anyone else had, and I hated involuntarily towering over all of my peers. It made me feel weird and out of place. But as I came to find out, I wasn't the only one feeling like a complete outcast. My friends would tell me how much they hated their extra curly hair, how they wanted to hide their dark arm hair at all times, and how embarrassed they were to be the only red-headed one in class. I started to understand something important- that none of us are normal. Each and every one of us has our own unique set of quirks, abilities, challenges, "flaws". We all stand out in our own way, and the person that sees it most apparently is ourselves. Instead of shaming ourselves for something that every other person on the face of the earth has... we should choose to celebrate it instead. Allowing ourselves to stand up for what we stand out for." -Ali
